Our Programs

At NENA, we offer a wide variety of programs designed to empower residents of the 9th Ward through direct services and community-based initiatives.

1. Affordable Housing Program

We aim to increase access to safe and affordable housing by building new homes, providing homebuyer education, and offering financial literacy programs. NENA has successfully developed 10 affordable homes and continues to work with local partners to expand affordable housing options.

2. Food Access Initiatives

Through partnerships with local food organizations and urban gardening projects, we ensure that residents have access to healthy and fresh food. Our Tactical Urban Kitchen initiative and Helena's Healing Garden are examples of how we are addressing food insecurity in the community.

3. Health and Wellness Programs

We host health fairs, educational workshops, and community clinics to promote wellness in the 9th Ward. Our partnerships with health organizations help provide essential services like low-cost medical and dental checkups.

4. Economic Development

NENA provides job training and business development support to help residents of the 9th Ward thrive economically. We offer resume workshops, job placement assistance, and entrepreneurship training programs.

5. Youth and Family Services

Our youth programs focus on leadership development, mentorship, and academic support. We aim to build a foundation of success for the next generation through after-school programs, tutoring, and summer camps.

6. Environmental Wellness

We are committed to creating sustainable, green spaces within our community. Through initiatives like tree planting, community cleanups, and green infrastructure development, we promote a healthier environment for the residents of the Lower 9th Ward.

7. Advocacy and Community Engagement

Advocacy is at the core of NENA's mission. We organize community events and advocacy campaigns that amplify the voices of our residents. These efforts include voter education, neighborhood meetings, and local government engagement.
